From the party of No!

Meg Whitman, former eBay CEO and GOP nominee for the California governor’s race, apparently sees most of her power coming from the veto pen.  The term veto originates from the Latin word for ‘I forbid.’

But she looks so happy! How could she always say no?

You don’t say?  A Republican, saying no?  Why, that sounds much like Congress these days, what with Republican Senators doing their damnedest to kill any piece legislation that has the potential to move the country forward.  It seems to me that their hope is if the country suffers enough, perhaps they’ll be able to take over a chamber of Congress in the midterm elections and maybe picking up the presidency in 2012.

Attention Meg Whitman and the GOP, writ large: if you want to win elections, talk about what you’ll do, not what legislation you’re going to kill.  Oh, and, by the way, saying that you led a ‘large organization’ like eBay, that doesn’t mean that you’re qualified to run a state of 30 million inhabitants.  That’s like saying because I’ve cooked a pork chop, I’m qualified to run a five star restaurant.  Also, does anyone else here remember the last ‘executives’ that figured prominently in US politics?  I do.  See: White House, January 20, 2001-January 20, 2009.
